Hassocks A Team Profile

Representing Keymer And Hassocks Mens Club, the new look Hassocks A Team squad is formed of Captain Wayne Hamilton, Neil Smith, Neil Baker, James Dew, Kevin Ward and Vinny Elphick.

A strong side with very capable players and big personalities, Hassocks A combine an exciting style of play with great banter and memorable curry nights with soon to be introduced, Chinese nights!

The last two seasons have seen the team complete back to back doubles of both the Thursday Division 1 title and the Harper Cup, an excellent achievement and a real team effort. Add this to their runners-up showings in the league previously and their dramatic Harper Cup victories in 2005 and 2008 then you get a picture of the strength in depth and consistency of this team.

Wayne Hamilton

Often referred to as the ’Jimmy White’ of the MSBSL, Wayne is the real heartbeat of the Hassocks A team, with his outrageous cueing ability and creativity on the table making him a hit amongst fellow players. A former Hassocks Club Champion and master of the big match situation who oozes composure, Wayne’s performances in both league and cup have been central to the success of Hassocks A in recent seasons.

Neil Baker

Although still keeping hold of his youthful demeanour, Neil is a real stalwart of the Hassocks A team, and widely regarded as one of the most consistent players in the league. Having captured the Hassocks Club Championship on numerous occasions and both the MSBSL Snooker Championship and Handicap titles throughout his playing career, Neil is a feared opponent capable of making the game look incredibly easy.

Kevin Ward

Kevin is an assured cueist with an exceptional snooker brain. His fierce potting ability, first-rate tactical knowledge, and strong will to win make him a solid match player and very hard to beat. With previous honours in the East Grinstead league and an impressive snooker C.V, recently adding the Hassocks Club Championship to his list of achievements, Kevin is looking for further success in the MSBSL.

Neil Smith

Regarded as one of the strongest match players in the league, Neil is a very consistent all-rounder. His tactical ability and read of the game often leave opponents bamboozled, looking on with admiration. His style in the balls combined with solid long potting make Neil a very reliable and capable competitor.

James Dew

His individual performances speak for themselves and there is no doubting his will and desire to win, but couple this with an extraordinary temperament and focus that means he is even more pleased with team rather than individual success. The downside of this however is his general arrogance and rudeness both on and off the table which have won him no friends or supporters within the Mid-Sussex snooker fraternity, but who would swap a cabinet full of trophies for those?

Vinny Elphick

Welcomed back with open arms by his club and team mates this veteran of the scene will surely make an immediate impact. He is very highly regarded among his contemporaries combining fantastic breakbuilding and safety play with a rare talent for always potting the pressure shot. Plays with the kind of style that fits in perfectly with the rest of the team and their supporters!
