Hassocks C Team Profile

The team original formed at the Burgess Hill Royal British Legion 5 years ago with Bomber, Brainy and Frosty along with the legend's Bill Lane and Tony Higham. Bill and Tony hung up their cues for two younger/better looking players Gumbo and Lively. This seem to work as the team won back to back titles, rising from Div 3 to Div 1 in consecutive seasons. Although we did have some help along the way with a player ranked 121st in the world......Curtis 'The maximum' Garner (so he said). Curtis has gone missing in action for the last two seasons, although there are rumours he is playing pool......ranked 76th in the world!!! (so he said). Last season we have moved to our new home at Hassocks Men's Club, with closing of the Legion. The team have struggled in with the big boys avoiding relegation was the main aim, the same target has been set for this year.

Brian Harris - Captain

Also known as Bomber, who has been playing in the league for 33 years, the majority of which was played at the Burgess Hill Royal British Legion but before his legion days he started playing at St Albans, which is now the home for Age Concern! And with the silver highlights it wont be long before he returns there. Bomber has also been playing in the Billiards league for the last ten years.

Keith Braine

Also known as Brainy, who has been playing in the league for 27 years all of these have been played with Bomber, (so know wonder Bomber's hair turned grey so early!!) . Brainy by name but not by nature is also known as the carpet muncher/fitter. Recent scalps include Neil Ingram (before he left for sunny climates ) and the kid from the bar that Clayton A used as they were desperate for a 5th player earlier in the season.

Jim Denison

Also known as Gumbo or Statto, Gumbo has been playing snooker/pool for 22 years, in his younger days many said he could turn out to be a really good player, it didn't take long to realise that most of his prowess was down to "lady luck" now regarded as the luckiest player in Mid-Sussex, he will tell you he doesn't get much luck though! Also playing billiards this year but has yet to find where the bar is at the new club.

Darren Knight

Also known as Lively, Lively has been playing the league for 15 years. He is the only person in the team to play in all divisions of the league, starting in Wednesday Div 2 with the RBL 'G' team, with a young Neil Baker (not sure what happened to him though). Eventually moved into Thursday Div 1 for a couple seasons, where the team folded and move to the billiards league beckoned. Starting in Div 2 in the billiards, Lively went a whole season without playing an in-off and still managed to bag a couple of wins.

Steve Frost

Frosty has been playing Thursday snooker for the last 6 years. Frosty has had a slow start to life in the first half of last season by only winning 1 frame, but since the turn of the new year he has only lost the once, with a notable scalp of Mark Bright to his name. When Frosty is not playing on the green baize you're liable to see him hanging from trees.
